I bought several of these ceramic things at an estate sale recently. They look like flower pots but are covered on the top with just a small hole. They are glazed on the outside and some are green and others black. They are about 4" tall. Does anyone know what these are and what they were used for? I've never seen any before.
Shoot, I was hoping someone would have identified this thing by now...you've got me curious too!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping YOU identified it LOL. I was wondering if it might be some sort of insulator? Or a pot to grow a straight sapling? But then how would you get the plant out? You'd have to break the pot. Doesn't make sense.
DeleteI'm laughing because you bought not one, but several of these and you don't know what they are. I admit though, that they are intriguing. Did you ask at the sale if anyone knew what they were? I hope one of your readers comes up with an answer because now I want to know too! lol
ReplyDeleteI know, hey :) I did ask and nobody knew. I think I paid a quarter a piece for those. It was the last couple hours of the sale and nothing was marked so you just made a pile and they gave you a price.
DeleteI tried an image search on google but didn't get anywhere. I hope today is the day someone figures it out!!
I asked my mom who is a horticulturist. She says it is probably a bulb pot that is missing a stopper on the bottom.
ReplyDeleteSo you would use to force a bulb indoors? I'm going to go search using those terms and see if I can find anything. Thanks for asking your mom! I'll report back what I find.
DeleteI have this idea that they could be part of a fountain...
DeleteThat is a good idea too. I'm leaning towards bulb planter but haven't been able to find anything remotely like them. I wonder if it would be keyword spamming if I put in the title "bulb planter water fountain insulators"
DeleteI have no clue! Have you tried google goggles? I think you can add an image and it scans for a photo match!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura. I did google image search. No luck.
Deletedid you try asking on Riddit? I've never done it, but heard a lot of people have luck doing that.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't really know anything about that. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the idea.
DeleteReddit has a whole subreddit called "what is this thing." http://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthisthing/ Try posting it there. Very helpful group!
DeleteThanks Chris. I'll give it a try.
DeleteWell I posted my question on the Scavenger Life comments section as well. I think the consensus is a bulb forcing pot. That is what I'm going to go with. Thanks everybody!
ReplyDeleteBTW I was going to post on Reddit but you have to open an account to post. I didn't really feel like opening another account somewhere so I didn't go that route.
