Best Sale This Week And A BOLO

My best sale this week was a Mens Filson Flannel Shirt. I'd heard of this brand quite a while back and knew to pick it up if I saw it but I'd never seen it before. A few months ago I found a new thrift shop. The prices are higher but the quality of the clothing is much higher. Designer labels. So when I saw this Filson flannel shirt I grabbed it. It was in perfect condition except for a pretty large stain inside the neckline which you wouldn't be able to see it while wearing it. I tried to get it out but it wouldn't budge. So I listed it with full disclosure of this flaw. I started high at $79.99 and just yesterday put it on sale for 10% off. It had a few watchers and sold that day for $67.49 plus shipping. I think I paid about $5 for it. New on the Filson website identical looking shirts start at $98. So my BOLO for you is ANYTHING Filson. They are an old company that sells clothing and accessories for the active outdoor life. Hunting, fishing, etc. They sell a few women's pieces but the majority of their stock is men's. Their merchandise is quality and very cool looking but I'm definitely not their target customer.  Check out the completeds on ebay.

In other news. Someone please find a way to stop me from buying mugs, books and ornaments. Part of my 2015 business goal is to a. increase my average selling price to $40 and b. shop more often and buy less. So why do I keep buying these items that will probably sell for less than $20 and fill up my overflowing shelves??? I get the book obsession because I've always loved book personally but I don't get the mugs and ornaments. For personal use I only have a few mugs. Four are a set and then I have a couple that were gifts. Never am I tempted to buy mugs for myself. So if you've found a way to stop buying something over and over. Please do share. What is your personal 'must buy' item?

  1. Definitely adding Filson to my BOLO list. Thanks for sharing. I had never heard of that brand before. I'm with you on the mugs. The problem is that they are so stinking cheap that I have a hard time passing them up. On the bright side, I sold three of them this week- only about 100 more to go :)

    1. They are cheap. That must be the draw for me too. And once in a while I hit a home run and find one that sells for $30. Too often though I buy them and get them home to find they are worth $10 or I missed a little chip.

  2. Same here with the mugs. I have a few that I use personally and I don't buy any to keep. Stinking cheap works for me. I read somewhere recently that to have a successful shop you should have high and low priced items. Well, I've got the low priced items and now I need to work on the high priced items. I have raised my average selling price to over $25, but I want it at least $35. Mugs won't get it there.

  3. Thanks for the tip Nancy. I have to keep that in mind. I still look for mugs. I really see no problem with selling mugs. I don't list them low though..but will sell them for around $20. If it's easy to photograph and list...I think it's worth it. But I am pickier about them. Don't buy as many as I used to. That's for sure.

    1. I just buy too many of them. It seems like whatever filter I used to have is gone and lately I've purchased ones I wouldn't have before. I agree though they are easy to photograph and easy to ship.

  4. Ahhhh Filson - that is one brand I have NEVER come across! Great score! Eileen Fisher clothing is another elusive brand for me - I've seen it just once - a pair of black pants that may stay in my closet.

Mugs mugs mugs - they are the bane of my thrifting existence! I love them because they can be super inexpensive. I've sold a couple of high dollar (well, according to my pocketbook) mugs and that's just enough to keep me buying them. I usually miss the boat on the peak though. Kliban cat mugs used to be a guaranteed high dollar sale ($60+) but they have come down this year. I just don't think I'll stop buying mugs. So PLEASE share your tips to stop buying over and over because we all know the definition of insanity. . .

    1. I've had the same luck with Eileen Fisher as you, Ree Cee. I have found exactly one piece. It was a beautiful lavender coat/sweater. I think I blogged about it sometime back. Thanks for the tip on the Kliban mugs. I've never found one but I did find a Kliban book that sold well. So far the only thing I can think of is to put a moratorium on mug buying for a certain length of time. Say two months and not let myself even look at them. Can I do it??

  5. I find EF all the time, and it's still a hard sell for me! Never heard of Filson before, I'll add that to my list! $5 for a $67 sale? Love those!

    1. I think it may depend on the economics of the area you live. The thrift stores I shop at aren't in very affluent areas. I read some other bloggers who find designer brands ALL the time. Thanks for commenting Kristen.
