I discovered my interest in religious items reading
Lorraine's blog. She has sold some very interesting religious items and written about them on her blog. I was raised Catholic but am no longer and was sort of surprised at my attraction to religious items. I think it's nostalgia for my childhood. I find them very interesting to look at and to research. I've sold several things since reading Lorraine's post. They are now on my radar whenever I'm thrifting. Below are some things I've sold.
Anri Wood Statue
Holy Water Font
And below are some recent finds. I've found them both at estate sales and thrift stores.
Our Lady Of Czestochowa Black Madonna Framed Print
Albrecht Dürer Praying Hands
Italian Triptych
Yugoslavian Religious Plaque
I never even noticed these types of things before but now look for them whenever I thrift. How about you? Do you sell religious icons? What has been your best sale in this category?
Those are great finds Nancy. I love the Italian one. Thank you for the link to my post. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Lorraine. I can't get enough of religious finds now. I feel like I'm Indiana Jones or Tom Hanks in The Davinci Code.
DeleteThey call to me too! And like you they are always on my radar. While I wasn't raised Catholic, I have enjoyed researching them for resell. Thanks for interesting blog topic...and love the pics of all your great finds:)
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl. I'm glad I'm not the only one! I wonder what it is about them.
DeleteI too was raised catholic and am no longer religious. I LOVE the look of the imagery but CANNOT have them in my house because they scare me! Too many horror movies for me ;) I don't like to buy them to re-sell, either.
ReplyDeleteAh yes. Scary movies with religious tones. One of my favorites The Omen. Then there is the whole Santaria thing. There were a couple of good scary movies based on that. That woman who used to be on the Cosby Show was in a good one. And The Exorcist.
DeleteI've sold a few things- mainly rosaries and First Communion Crosses. Even though I haven't sold much, I'm Catholic, and I have a hard time leaving certain items behind. For instance, last summer I found an Our Lady of Fatima statue for 50 cents. It had some flaws, but I couldn't leave it there. I had to bring her home. Probably Catholic guilt, but I love her :)
ReplyDeleteKimberly I had to giggle at the catholic guilt. I think I feel a twinge when I make a nice profit off of a religious item. I don't think my childhood priest would approve.
DeleteI'm Polish & Catholic and the Black Madonna is one that is usually hanging in almost every Polish immigrants home. LOL. I think my parents might still have one. I'll have to check next time. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of the Black Madonna before and now I seem to keep seeing it everywhere.
