Happy Birthday To Me And All Other December Babies

Google made a special illustration for me today! I hadn't heard of this so I was totally surprised and a little touched LOL. At first I thought Oh, some famous person has the same birthday as me! Then I clicked on it to see who…Haha. It was me. Have you seen this before? Did you get one on your birthday? I'm sure you have to have a google account or something. I'm 52 today. I never thought I'd be this old….or I probably figured that everything would be perfect by the time I reached this age so I wouldn't mind being 'old'. So dear readers, give me some birthday wisdom today (especially if you are over 50)! And don't dare say age is just a number. I already know that one :) Be creative. I'm demanding on my birthday. All I really want is lots of sales!! Come one ebay and etsy! Give me a $100 day!!!

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! 52 is just getting started. I don't have much wisdom to share, I need all I can get to keep me going.:) Just enjoy each and every minute of every day because every experience you have just makes you more ________. You fill in the blank because life is what you want it to be. I can hear my mother telling me over and over that you are only as happy as you want to be. It took me a while to figure that out. But thankfully I did.
    Have a wonderful day.

    1. Thanks Annabel! That's great advice. Seems the older I get the easier it is to follow it. When I was younger I worried too much. I still worry but I'm happier.

  2. When I was younger I'd always argue with my mom and say stuff like, "But what will people think?" After passing 50, I could care less what other people think. I'm 57 now. It's kind of freeing to just be myself and not worry about other people. So happy birthday! Eat your Google cake, be a free spirit and have fun!

    1. Hi Lorrain and thank you for the advice. :) It is freeing to be older and not care what people think so much. I never thought when I was younger that I could be a reseller. I thought I had to be "something" then. I'm having a lot more fun sellin' junk!

  3. Happy Birthday!! I enjoy reading your blog. So, these are a few things that come to mind. Remember – you asked . . .
Own who you are – took a while to get here – you’re the boss of you.
Contact a childhood friend via email or a card who you haven’t heard from in ages and just say hi. (I’m sending Glass Houses by Billy Joel to my high school bestie Linda – we memorized every word to every song on that album - haven’t heard from her in about 25 years.)
Pick the most fun year of your life (it was 1988 for me) and listen to all the songs from that year – a flood of memories will come back and make you smile.
If you’re single, find someone who loves you more than you love them – trust me. If you have someone – love them with all your heart – don’t use them as someone to blame all your problems on – trust me.
If you don’t have a pet, please consider adopting one from a shelter. Your life will be enriched beyond belief.
Nothing dates a woman more than being matchy matchy. Don’t wear the same color earrings, shirt, shoes, etc. (yawn!) Mix the prints, yes with plaids and stripes – everyone will think you are trendy.
And finally, eat that last damn cupcake and enjoy every damn bite.

  4. I work in a hospital and most of our patients are older. I had this sweet older gentleman (I think he was late 80's) who was moving slowly, stiff and sore. I said to him "It's hell getting older isn't it?" He said to me "Its hell BEING older, but if you didn't have fun GETTING older, thats your own damn fault". I never forgot that! Only wisdom I got, have a great birthday!

    1. Thanks Marci :) I have parents who live in assisted living and some of the best words of wisdom I get are from some of the other residents. I love um. Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a pretty quiet birthday but I did go thrifting! And the weather today was like spring (I live in Wisconsin). We hit 58! So it was kind of like being a summer baby. I shaved my legs and put shorts on.

  5. Happy belated birthday Nancy!!! Hope you had a wonderful day. The only thing I can think of is to relate something that my Mom taught me. My mom is 67 and her brother died when he was only 30. Ever since I can remember, my Mom always said that she didn't think she would be around for very long and that maybe she would die young too. She is still young, but she tells me often she never thought she'd live this long and is greatful for every day she is on this earth. I think that when we realize our time is finite, we appreciate things more. I remember when we decided to have our 3rd son. We knew that would be our last baby...and I enjoyed him (every moment when he was a baby) because I knew I would never experience that again. Just being grateful is a powerful thing. xoxoxo

  6. This is one piece of advice I've heard, and I don't know to whom it is attributed. It works in many situations.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

There will always be someone younger or older, richer or poorer, taller or shorter, fatter or thinner, and the list goes on...

    Happy birthday!
