Mystery Item

I got this yesterday at an estate sale. It's a brass duck clip that measures about 4 3/4" in length. It appears to be made to hang on a wall. Ive never seen one and am wondering what it might be for. The duck's bill opens to clip something. Any ideas?

Edited to add: see the comments. Tony from Mississippi Pickers came in with some great information.

    1. I never guessed. I'm glad I picked it up. There was no price on it and it was just mixed in with a bunch of kitchen utensils. I don't like buying stuff that isn't marked because I'm always afraid they'll charge me some ungodly price for a spatula haha but I'm so glad I did.

    1. Thanks! I just listed it. I listed it high with best offer. I could only find a few that ranged in price from $100 to 400. But no solids in that price range. I think it will probably be an item I have to wait for the right buyer to come along.
